it has been months since I have posted anything on the blog..It has been a hectic semester some of which I have not enjoyed but some I have enjoyed thoroughly...
This summer break I am promising to be more active with my blog and post new ideas as well as reworked old ideas.
here are some of the things I have planned

Curtains: Blck and White collection : Lilac collection with lavender, violets and lilac:Turquoise, light blue and orange or yellow
Cushion: coordinating to the curtains
Mono prints: Cushions + curtains

As a part of my teaching I am doing a project called beyond sketchbook which involves students from different departments.I am sort of looking forward how it will turn out to be, as this involves large scale installations...

This project is aimed at translating concepts in to experiences involving senses. Sensorial Design, An interface to any experience, whether technological, physical, or conceptual, must have a message and a reason for communicating it and begin with the creation of meaning and the development of appropriate types of interactivity. Any product or art installation need not stop at being visually rich; it can interact with all the senses.

It is aimed at creating large interactive installations using Fabric and simple technology using sensory triggers to interact with the audience.

I think I have always been a mixed media artist..i can not get myself to use a pure medium...When was browsing through different blogs of surface designers, i knew that time has come for me to spend more time creating work for myself...when i love an artwork, i am sure it will be appreciated by others too...

Time to get start new project.....To start with I have decided to complete few stoles with natural dyes. I am sitting and tying them to get patterns...Next few days i am dedicating to work on mono-prints,screen prints, collages and start understanding my sewing...so many things to do.... and i wish i had a studio with a beautiful view..and mess i can ignore and work.....i am not going to bother with what I don't have... i have so many tasks to complete.
Yesterday my friend Swati who weaves amazing textiles and me went to visit a friend of ours....
Geetha is so passionate I am amazed and it is amusing to watch ehr...when I see her I see a person who can be so thrilled and content in just watching sun set or plant, flower or playful pups...Hmmmm.. it was so relaxing.. that we ended up spending the whole day... and we went to see orchids in her friend's house...Awesome..that was all I could think of..it was dusk and soon the rains wee about come down pouring ..reluctantly we left..I was so ashamed that i do not tend to my plants the way these women would.. they actually love them..i used to be like that... i am going to go back on my gardening..it is a promise i have made...I am going to retire in to a house with flowers, fruits and green....Hmmmm..long term plans.. to start i am going to get my garden in to shape.......i will post images today.....

So many things to do..at last break from school for few days..So ...so many things to do and complete..this new obsession with collages, calligraphy, silk painting and dyeing with natural colors actually making me loose sleep..
As I am unwell, i am finding it hard to choose between healing and working..It has been ages since i have gone for a walk....for a stroll...or just gaze in to the sky...take a picture..

i have printed, hand painted and used sequins and glass beads on silk chiffon.
I have deliberately used very pastel shades as i did not want any strong colors...
this was more like an exploration rather than "designed"
past week i have been printing fabrics for cushions and curtains..my theme being veins and leaf structures..i will post image soon

I have started another collection of silk stoles.this time I am using Chiffon instead of crepe silk. i will also be using sequins and colorless beads to embellish the designs..I have also hand painted and printed ..I have not made them very exploratory as I am creating them for someone else...i would love to go and have fun..i am finding it difficult as i feel i have to work within boundaries.. i would really love to print the fabric myself..somehow every design or the screen i choose does not seem appropriate.somehow i have to compromise and use it...
may ideas have crossed my mind and I ahve planned very interesting collection. i think i need to create my own patterns and expose the designs on to screens...Here with already available screens, either the direction is wrong or i does not emote what i want the stoles to be...I think i need to just explore and have fun which is more satisfying...
Now that i have a fair idea about the kind of patterns available, i need to think and plan my hand painting accordingly...I am looking forward to work with an embroidery person and make these look more bright and littler glimmer in to the fabrics.....

I took a break from my sketching as I was enjoying random color and texture instead of focusing on motifs for curtains with specific size and colors.....It was getting too vague....Today I am back at silk painting which is sort sitting on top of my list....i have to send these stoles to my artist friend Radha in Cincinnati for an exhibition....Frantically trying to complete :(

I am thinking what is that I am lacking in my work..silk colors have their own flow and feel which I can not change.. so i need to use the media according to the behavior..I was actually sitting and looking at my stoles and wondering how else can i use it and make something very me..and very different...Do I lack a style of my own... my hand paints and draws that way....so i need to sort many things.....

When a friend of mine asked me to print few curtains for his home, I was so enthusiastic..My deadline was that I would finish printing by yesterday....Hmmmm..I can not decide on a pattern..I feel everything looks so boring..I have promised that I will do something unique....
So as I ask my students to do, i started brainstorming what i feel the pattern should! and came up with many words!! I finally decided on contemporary yet traditional should be the look of the pattern..
sheer fabric...subtle color palette...foliage to inspire me....so here I am sitting and wondering what it should be...
It started off with pipal leaf pattern...was not so sure or impressed with it.i did many ideas, but somehow there was something missing....
So i need to now settle on some patterns and send it across....

we live on a road which is about 60 feet wide! we ar actually green and maintain very good greenery around.suddenly there was sanction of money to asphalt the road till the end of the road..so here is what happened all our plants were chopped off...it might be that the road was truly that wide but we the residents had planted trees in 5 feet distance...but still we felt awful that the plants were just destroyed..at times in bangalore chopping trees have become very important and first aspect of making the road whetehr it is required or not!!!!!

Friday was truly the inauspicious Friday THE 13th in our family. My cousin,friend very very dear to me passed away at a young age of 47 leaving two teenage kids, mom and wife shell shocked.
Ana was full o flife and peace..HE was named Shatanand but I always thought he was like the lord Buddha...
He never raised his voice..shouting,using bad words, getting angry was not there in his nature..Even after seeing his peacefully sleeping face in the coffin, I can not believe that there will not be another sms, online chat or a long mail between us.Every other day we had a few line conversation on yahoo..i dont feel like opening yahoo chat...
May his soul rest in peace..Even though I felt that God has been so cruel by taking him away, i am still praying that may his family find the strength...
How fate works..how it drew him to walk up the Tirumala hills and fall and die when he was all alone walking by himself.. no one around...It sounds so cliched when i thought when one dies he or she dies alone...But i still can not forgive god for taking him away....it is such a cruel fate..
why did he go to climb...why did he not get sleep and get up early when it will be too hot to climb..why did he not return home as planned....why why...
this death of my dearest friend and some way a philosopher too...will be hard to come to terms with..
I wish....I had gone when i was supposed to go..i wish i had gone ahead with our plans of many trips to many places....I wish......

since three weeks, i have been working on my plan for a collection of stoles.
Some are dyed in natural dyes and some hand painted with dyes..my collection will be called Ombre'
I came across this word(think it is french) which means shaded..I have been looking for a appropriate word for my collection and this suited better .I might change it completely as i might finally see the completed collection of fabrics in new light...found some interesting colors in one of the blogs.

Ombre' also gives me a feel of color palette I can't somehow say how it matches.It just has suddenly given me a whole new idea about colors..My story starts from my trip to sanchi..now it is time for me to start doing my story through visuals...colours hidden and colour prominent are the two ways I will be looking at...A whole range of Umbers/ochres/browns and greys are my main palette.The colours are l from the architecture, so I will not be using any loud colors...meaning strong hues...I will be exploring many more options before i settle on my final palette..
The techniques will be Print, Painted ,dyed and stenciled along with the technique of sun painting.i am actually looking forward to this weekend when swati and I will be working on our first collage with hand made papers and fabrics...It will be a quilt kind of concept. I can actually visualize it..I will use some images from the Sanchi trip and use hand made papera nd natural dyed fabric to create acollection out of disintegration...

Last week, i was on a field trip with the students to belur and halebeedu as we are a part of Hoysala Heritage project along with UNESCO.
i could not stop observing every small details which are carved on stone..It is so hard to believe that it is stone..it just feels as if the stone melted in the hands of the sculptor and formed whatever he perceived...

Close to Mandu is Maheshwar, a town on the northern bank of Narmada River that served as the capital of the Indore state under Rajmata Ahilya Devi Holkar. The Maratha rajwada (fort) is the main attraction. A life-size statue of Rani Ahilya sits on a throne within the fort complex. Dhar was the capital of Malwa before Mandu became the capital in 1405. There, the fort is in ruins but offers a panoramic view. The Bhojashala Mosque (built in 1400) is still used as a place of worship on Fridays. The abandoned Lat Masjid (1405) and the tomb of Kamal Maula (early 15th century), a Muslim saint, are other places of interest.(wikipedia)

SIX HATS FOR CREATIVE THINKING
In the early 1980s Dr Edward de Bono developed a framework for
thinking designed to encourage lateral thinking. The six hats represent
different directions of thinking and should be used to separate what is
being said from who is saying it.
Scenario you are trapped in a lift with 3 other people.
Using this as an example here is what each hat does and what kind of
thinking would be expected while wearing that hat. Add some ideas of
your own to each catagory
THE WHITE HAT calls for information, facts, figures, the truth.
“What’s the number of the lift company?”
THE YELLOW HAT symbolises the logical positive, why something
will work and what the benefits will be.
“Great, now I’m stuck I’ll miss that boring meeting?”
THE BLACK HAT is judgment and caution or why something
may not work.
“Do we have any food and water?”
THE RED HAT signifies feelings, hunches and intuition.
“I feel scared but I’m sure we’ll be alright?”
THE GREEN HAT focuses on creativity; the possibilities,
alternatives, and new ideas.
“Lets bang on the walls to see if we can attract attention?”
THE BLUE HAT is used to manage the thinking process. It is thinking
about how you are thinking.
“Now pull yourselves together, there’s got to be a solution let’s put our
heads together!”
